Cowboy Bebop

Orky borky!  (I've noticed that I usually start reviews with some type of sound effect)  I had never really wanted to watch Cowboy Bebop, you see, I had always heard it compared to Trigun and I was afraid that I would like it more than Trigun.  I really didn't have that much to worry about after all.  It turns out that Cowboy Bebop doesn't have that much in common with Trigun, which makes me confused since so many people compare the two oh well.

Here we go!  We got the story, which is pretty simple once you get down to it.  All that really goes on is that the main characters are either searching for or trying to resolve their past, that's it.  How does it go on for 26 episodes you ask
(since they could've really cut it down to maybe 12 or 13)
?  Well, not all the episodes deal with the main plot, most of 'em are just there so we can watch everyone either chase after bounties (forgot to mention, they're bounty hunters) or just do random silly things.

On to the animation.  The animation is spectacular!  Hey, this TV show has a lot better animation than most of the non-TV anime I have seen.  They also do a wonderful job combining computer graphics with the animation, they do at least as well with doing this as the people who made Macross Plus.  The animation is just plain great!

Now, for the music.  This is also wonderful, it's like a cross between blues, funk, jazz and that other one.  Anyway, I love it, and the only reason I'm not going to buy the soundtrack is because there are too many soundtrack cd's for this show.  I like the music of Cowboy Bebop about as much as I like the music of Trigun, just in a different way, if that makes sense

The big thing that caught me off guard about this show was the violence level.  I had been sitting here for quite awhile getting accustomed to Trigun and the people in it generally trying not to kill people, and since so many people had compared Trigun to Cowboy Bebop I was kinda expecting the same thing.  Whoo boy, I was totally wrong, there is violence in Cowboy Bebop x 2, we got kung fu action, shooting people action and fly around in space action (not to mention many other types of action).  Bottom line, this is not a kid's anime, lots and lots of things in here that are considered to be strictly for adult viewing.  But that doesn't mean there is a bunch of nekked ladies dancing around, in fact, there is only one booby scene (and that kinda almost doesn't count, and is just not right in any case).  But hey, just 'cause I'm making it sound serious doesn't mean it's completely serious, I'm just kinda comparing it to Trigun all the time, but Cowboy Bebop is also very funny at times (Ed kicks ass) and just does a great job of balancing comedy, action, drama and whatever else into a happy little package.

Ugg... I think I just did a bunch of meaningless babble that doesn't make much sense, but that kinda fits with the rest of my reviews anyway, just watch it.  Oops, I forgot to say something, even though this show is extremely episodic (for the most part), it kinda works out because then you can skip out on showing some of the not-so-good episodes to people and just show 'em the good ones without worrying about them missing out on too much story.

Genre - action/sci-fi/comedy/drama  -  probably some other stuff too

Animation - Okay, for those of you who've seen Trigun, imagine the animation of this show being about the same quality as the opening bar sequence, only with well done computer animation... for those of you who are so unfortunate as to not have seen Trigun, the animation just plain kicks all ass

Sub vs. Dub - never tried the sub because the dub is so fucking great in the first place

the Good - Ed, great action sequences (and I mean really fucking great!), kung fu, guns, cool characters, good story, funny and serious at the appropriate times, a nice break from the too-silly type anime, what they did after the credits of the last episode (watch the stars)

the Bad - I didn't find the characters extremely likeable

Overall - They did a wonderful thing when the made this show, hell, even my dad (who, for some reason, doesn't like cartoons anymore and continually calls anime crap) watched the first three episodes with me and seemed to find it enjoyable  (26 episodes)
