I've
seen episodes 1-8 of ? (I've been told there's 13 episodes)
I believe that I will not relate the story of the dirty asshole on E-Bay
who sold these episodes to me. Suffice to say, don’t believe everyone who
claims to know what a VCD is…
Hellsing is about an organization known as the Hellsing Organization that
operates somewhere in Britain. The purpose of Hellsing is to kill off vampires
and protect queen and country. Hellsing also has trouble with another vampire
hunting organization, which is actually the Vatican, which not only wants to
destroy vampires and the like, but also wants to get rid of Hellsing.
Fortunately for Hellsing, they have Alucard, a vampire of great power, to keep
them from getting their asses kicked.
The first thing I love about this series is that the Alucard doesn’t
give a crap about the fact that he’s a vampire, he actually likes it. In a
world where vampires are usually shown as creatures who hate what they are and
strive to become human once again, it’s nice to see one that doesn’t give a
shit and doesn’t mind sucking someone’s blood. While he still sucks blood,
he only does it to survive, and hates vampires who go around killing for the
hell of it, which is one reason why he works with Hellsing. Other reasons I like
the show are that guns are used prominently, since there are only two vampires
in Hellsing and the rest need to use squad tactics to kill off vampires. Going
along with that, I REALLY like the woman vampire, who I can’t remember the
name of. She also, after a little while accepts being turned into a vampire
instead of hating herself and works alongside the human squads as a sniper type
person. The music also kicks ass and theirs a whole lot of cool characters (the
priest that reminds me of Dolph Lundgren) and the atmosphere of the show is a
lot like Resident Evil, except good.
Anyway, after all that, the animation is very good, using a style I
haven’t seen before where both static images and animation is combined. For
instance, pretend you’re just sitting there looking at a cell, and then it’s
arm moves but nothing else does. It’s hard to explain, but if you’ve seen
Petshop of Horrors, it’s kinda like that, except Hellsing uses at least as
much actual motion animation and both types are excellent, especially during the
action sequences, which happen often (as soon as you see the intro, you’ll
know what I’m talking about). As was mentioned, the music kicks ass and fits
extremely well with the anime, I’m even thinking about buying the soundtrack.
Everything about this show kicks ass, the story, characters, music,
animation, style and the fact that the vampire story taking place in current
times is made believable. I haven’t shown the show to either of my anime
groupies yet, but I think we’ll all agree that the vampire situation is pulled
off quite well. (I have had arguments with them about how vampires should be
handled, I like how it was done in Blood while they like a traditional vampire,
like the ones in Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust or The Real Ghostbusters. Watch this
fucking show, I haven’t lost my mind so much after realizing I wouldn’t be
able to see the rest of the series for a long time since I had to wait for
Trigun, considering this is a new series in Japan and the only reason I got
these is because I was tricked into thinking they were VCD’s, wile they turned
out to be AVI files burned onto CD-R’s after being recorded off of TV and
fansubbed. Oh well, I got him back.
Genre
- action/vampire
Animation
- excellent animation and artwork done in a fancy way
Sub
vs. Dub - only seen the fansub
the
Good - good characters, great animation, great music, great story, great
action, etc...
the
Bad - I've only seen 8 episodes...
Overall - it's
wonderful to finally see a vampire show like this, where the lead vampire isn't
a whiny bitch. Aside from that, it is my favorite vampire anime, beating out
Blood, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust and some others can't think of
