Princess Mononoke

I decided that enough time had passed since I'd seen Princess Mononoke that I could write a review of it.  When I first reviewed it, all I said was that it made me take a walk and that, while I was watching it, it made me forget I was watching anime.  I now think that it needs more of an explanation than that.

Princess Mononoke is sort of about a boy who travels to find a way to cure some evil that is spreading through him and also kind of about gods of nature who are trying to defend their homes from the ravages of humankind.  This anime is, if I wanted to generalize things, the best nature conservation video ever made.

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of fighting and action to keep you crazy buggers happy, but there is also a very deep and involving story that surrounds the action.  Hmm... yeah, just like I thought, I'm still having trouble writing a review about this movie.  I guess it's probably because I'm an idiot and I most likely wouldn't be able to just write how good this movie is, it has to be seen.

The animation and artwork is some of the best I've seen in an anime, and the action and story is believable (well... if you're willing to accept all the gods and lore present in the movie, then everything's pretty believable).  Princess Mononoke also manages to show that there aren't really any true 'bad guys'.

Genre - fantasy/action/drama

Animation - Some of the best I've seen, great animation and detailed designs.

Sub vs. Dub - I've only seen the dub

the Good - Everything was good about this anime.

the Bad - I can't really think of anything... well, if you don't like long movies, I guess you could consider that it's about 2 and a half hours long to be bad.

Overall - my dad, who thinks all anime is crap, was forced to watch this once and he then recommended it to my mom, who has about the same opinion about anime
