Transformers

Well, since I don't want to go to bet yet and my brother is watching a movie with some of his friends, I guess it's time to write a review.  Luckily, I have something good to write a review about.  I snagged this one from Mike in exchange for letting him borrow my Trigun DVD's (he is now addicted to Trigun) and amsomewhat glad he bought this instead of me.  It's also the only DVD I have reviewed that I don't own (aside from Bubblegum Crisis which I sold).

Anyway, the story is about a giant planet type thing that's being all evil and trying to kill everybody.  Everybody doesn't like this and attempt to stop him, this creates about 86 minutes of nearly non-stop action.  That massive amount of action is what, at first, kinda put me off towards the movie, but I'll get into that a little later.  First of all, let me say that this review may be somewhat biased towards the Transformers, since I grew up watching them on the Bozo the Clown show at my babysitter's house (we didn't have cable) and this movie brought back a lot of sentimental type memories for me that made me happy.  Therefore, if you don't like the Transformers or didn't watch them as you grew up, you probably won't like this movie as much as I did, but if you did grow up with Transformers, then you'll most likely like this movie, probably more than me since I'm not the biggest Transformers fan in the first place.

Okay, like I said, lots of action.  Insane amounts of action.  Action to the point of no return!  At least, that was my first impression, but after watching the movie a second time I saw that there was a whole lot more in here than non-stop action.  It's more like there are little breaks between monstrous battles, which is nice.  Another thing that's nice is that they weren't afraid to kill off main characters on either side, or drastically change them.  Unfortunately, I did not like what they did with Megatron, so that kinda went against the movie.

The animation was very very good.  For the most part, everything was very detailed and there was no problem with choppy frame rates, everything was nice and smooth.  The music was kind of a mixed up good/bad thing.  Considering when the movie was made, the music is fine, but unless you find it amusing to be bombarded with crazy 80's music for at least ¾ of the movie, you probably won't like it.

Yeah, this movie just kept reminding me of the goodness of Transformers.  Even if you're not a fan, I suggest you at least rent it, it's a very good way to kill 1 ½ hours.  At least it's better than watching the Pokemon movie (which I plan to do pretty soon, against the will of God I might add).

Genre - action/adventure/mecha?

Animation - I was pleasantly surprised at how good the animation was,

not just its frame rate, but the also amount of detail in the drawings.

Sub vs. Dub - I don't even know if it's in Japanese...

the Good - it brought back good memories, had great characters, great action, weren't afraid to kill characters off, decent story, it's Transformers

the Bad - they didn't kill off that kid, a few more trivial things I can't really think of right now

Overall - good shit, even if you're not familiar with the Transformers, there's a good chance you'll like 'em after watching this
