Twilight of the Dark Master

Hooray for me, I am in pain from running my fat ass around the track enough to equal 2 miles in 15 minutes today, plus hiking through the woods for two hours in uncomfortable boots while ducking for cover occasionally so we wouldn’t be seen by the other patrols… I want my tanks back damnit!  Screw this scout crap!  Okay, anyway, let me talk to you about a (hey, I should post my link on Anime Web Turnpike again… yeah…) movie I watched that did not live up to expectations set by people I don’t know.

Okay, we got demons trying to kill off humans and demon hunters sent to protect the humans.  Neither the demons nor the demon hunters like each other and I’m not quite sure how well known the demons are by the humans.  But anyway, a woman’s husband mutates into a demon and chews her up a bit, which makes her want to figure out what the hell is going on.  With the help of… that demon hunter guy and his faithful sidekick Jumpy, they do stuff.

Despite the fact that this movie sounded like and was compared to Wicked City, there was, thankfully, no gratuitous demon sex.  Unfortunately, despite what I was ‘told’, the fight scenes weren’t that spectacular.  The typical fight scene consisted of one of the demons or the demon hunter shooting air or flicking explosions (I won’t call it fire, because I didn’t see any damn fire) at one another while they dodged.  What I’d heard was that the fight scenes were incredibly animated and wonderfully done…  but, as I said, there wasn’t much action in the action, even when the big bad guy and the good guy faced off, it was pretty boring.

This show was well animated though, especially considering it’s age and style of animation.  The artwork was also well done and gave the show a look of dirty, ickyness that helped to set the mood.  Yeah, it was a good show with good animation and an interesting plot, but, on the other hand, there wasn’t much to back that up, like some good, old school, ass kicking action that I like so much.

Genre - horror

Animation - The animation was quite nice, as was the artowrk.  Unfortunately, the times that we do see the great animation, it makes the not-so-great action scenes that much worse for all that they could have been.

MSub vs. Dub - only watched the dub before I sold it

the Good - a good story that wasn't bogged down by demon sex, interesting, good animation, death is not something that happens only to the extras and bad guys

the Bad - action wasn't very action packed, lipstick wearing heroes, crappy final confrontation

Overall - It was pretty good, not as good as I'd hoped, but at least it didn't have demon sex! .
