I remember watching Vampire Hunter D when I was about… maybe 14 or 15
when it was on the Sci-Fi channel. Not only do I remember thinking that it
sucked, but I also remember my dad being the one who said I should watch it,
telling me it was a classic. I’m pretty damn sure it sucked, since I’ve seen
some parts of it again since then, but I’m confused as to how my dad cannot
remember saying he saw it before. This may have something to do with him calling
anime in general Japanese crap or stupid cartoons… it confuses me since I
remember sitting there on Saturday morning and watching cartoons with him, which
he watched because he really liked them, now I have to drag him kicking and
screaming to get him to watch anything like this. Of course, he still likes The
Real Ghostbusters (the original cartoon) and SWAT Cats, because they kick ass.
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust takes place in the far future from Vampire
Hunter D, where Vampires are becoming very rare and hunted largely to just kill
them off. D is hired by a man whose daughter was kidnapped by a powerful vampire
who claims that she loves him as much as he loves her. D must go and rescue the
woman, while at the same time, the man also hired another group of bounty
hunters to do the same. D has to now try and get to the woman before the others
do so he can get paid.
The animation in Bloodlust is beautiful. CG animation is blended
extremely well with wonderfully detailed cell type animation and the quality
does not diminish at all through the nearly 2 hour movie. The action sequences
are extremely well done and there’s quite a variety as the characters are also
extremely varied. The characters is actually what makes the show great, since
they are all damned cool and none of them are shown as doing anything stupid,
giving the impression that the people are as experienced
as they’re supposed to be.
Yes, this movie kicks ass and makes up for the crappiness of Vampire
Hunter D.

vs. Dub - when it was released in the US, they excluded the Japanese
soundtrack for some reason, but the dub isn't bad
the
Good - great action, great characters, good story, etc...
the

(unbelievable) silly at times
