Well, this
was actually supposed to be the first anime review posted here, but back then,
my being a dumbass worked against me and it got deleted. Oh well. For starters,
let me say that I may be a little biased as I review this anime because it is
the first 'real' (not like Thundercats or Transformers type stuff) that I can
ever remember seeing, so it holds a special place in my heart (kinda like that
neon orange, stuffed triceratops I have that roars... I named him Phony Hawk).
There
isn't a whole lot of bio-molecular chemistry type intellect involved in this
movie, just lots of - let's go find stuff and blow it up! - which is just fine
with me. It's about some kids who are caught in a war for their home city on
Venus (it's in the future retard) and are brought in by the local freedom
fighters. Everyone then proceeds to drive around and destroy things, until
they finally defeat the bad guy (oh no! I just told you what happens! I guess
that means that if you're one of those MTV watching, trendy motherfuckers, you
can shove a pole up your ass and try to shit! I don't like those dumb pieces of
crap).
Even
though the plot of the story is kinda predictable, the way they get to this
predictable ending isn't very... predictable. For instance, if the main good guy
hadn't been there, the rebels still would've won. Lot's of good stuff happens in
this deal and lots of cool vehicles are cruisin' around, unfortunately,
many of these are in the very beginning and get blown up right away.
Here's
a little warning for you, don't watch this movie dubbed, if you have the choice.
I had been watching The Venus Wars that way for awhile and I was wondering why
everybody made so little sense and thought it was kinda stupid that the main
character's girlfriend sounded like she was from Canadia (I made no spelling
error just now). Later, just for shits and giggles, I watched it subbed and holy
crap, it was almost like watching a whole different, much better movie.
Here's another warning type thing, if you ever watch the DVD of The Venus Wars,
make sure that at 27 minutes and 16 seconds in, you have it firmly set at
english dubbed, be prepared to laugh your ass of at funny noises.
Genre
- action/drama??/sci fi
Animation
- The animation is super-duper real good and a bucket-o-fish, the only problem
is that the people who made The Venus Wars thought it would be a good idea to,
in one scene, try and blend the anime with a real footage background. It looks
like shit.
Sub
vs. Dub - The sub is definitely better, I can't even watch the dub after
seeing it... unless I want to switch over for the door scene
the
Good - Great animation, great action, cool vehicles, non-annoying characters
(in the subbed verson) and no cartoon boobies flying around and hitting people
in the head.
the
Bad - That one animation scene I mentioned and there's this one gay
guy that shows up for no reason, he's REALLY gay in the dubbed version. The
dubbing was pretty horrible too.
Overall
- A good qality anime that is one of my favorites for more than just
sentimental reasons, if it's at the video store, rent it over that stupid movie
you've been wanting to see, just make sure that if you get two movies, you get
Twin Warriors! Yeah! That made a lot of sense! WOOO!
